ISO - International Standardization Organization är huvudorganisationen inom standardidering. Det praktiska arbetet sker i tekniska kommittéer (technical committees, TC), som kan ha subkommittéer (subcommittees, SC) och arbetsgrupper (working groups, WG).

SFS är full medlem i kommittén ISO TC 46, Information and documentation, och observatör i kommittén ISO TC 171, Document management applications.
